News Topical, Digital Desk : Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has described the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) consecutive electoral victories as a result of the opposition's failure and the unity of Hindu voters. He also said that it is wrong to accuse him of creating a rift among anti-Modi voters.
What did Owaisi say about the allegations against him?
In an interview to PTI on Saturday, Owaisi said, "Tell me how can I be accused?" He said, "If I contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Hyderabad, Aurangabad, Kishanganj and some other seats and the BJP gets 240 seats, am I responsible?"
BJP got 50 percent of Hindu votes in its favor
Owaisi said, "The BJP is coming to power because the opposition has failed. The BJP is winning the elections because it has secured nearly 50 per cent of the Hindu votes in its favour." He said that the attempt to accuse him and call him the BJP's "B-team" is nothing but the opposition's "hatred" towards his party as his party mainly represents Muslims.
Opposition parties look at Muslim votes only for electoral gains
On opposition parties accusing the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of splitting the anti-Modi vote, Owaisi hit back, saying opposition parties see the Muslim vote only as an electoral gain while not paying attention to their real issues.
Why can't Muslims get leadership?
He questioned, 'When every section of society can get political leadership, why not Muslims?' When asked if he was referring to the Congress, he said that he was referring to all opposition parties including Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and BJP.
Yadavs will be leaders, Muslims will be beggars
Owaisi said, 'Yadavs will be leaders, Muslims will be beggars. Upper caste people will be leaders, Muslims will be beggars. How is this fair, tell me.' He also said that India's founding leaders had envisioned the country as a participatory democracy, so 'where is the participation of Muslims?'
Will always stand with the Indian Army
Owaisi said, 'When there is a question of India's integrity and security, we will come forward and stand with the Indian Army. But we also have to talk about the problems inside our house.' He said that despite being the largest minority group in the country with about 15 percent of the population, Muslims have only four percent participation in the assemblies and parliament. When asked the reason for this, he said that this is because political parties do not give tickets to Muslims to contest elections.
This government cannot achieve the goal of 'developed India'
He said India cannot achieve the goal of 'developed India' by 2047 by keeping such a large community marginalised and vulnerable. Owaisi said political parties should stop looking at Muslims as vote banks and instead work to uplift them, educate them, treat them fairly and give them jobs. He said, 'Our fight is that we don't want to remain voters. We want to remain citizens.'
