The month of Vaishakh has started from 13th April. In this month, along with taking bath in holy places, worshipping Lord Shiva is also considered to be of special importance. In this month, Galantika is also necessarily tied on the Shivling. Galantika is a pot with a hole, from which water keeps dripping drop by drop on the Shivling. Do you know the religious reason behind this, if not, then let us know about it.
What is the mythological belief
According to mythology, when the Samudra Manthan (Samudra Manthan story) took place, a cup of poison was also produced from it, which caused chaos all around. Then Mahadev, the God of Gods, drank this poison.
It is believed that when the heat starts increasing in the month of Vaishakh, the temperature of Lord Shiva's body starts increasing due to the poison present in his throat. In such a situation, Galantika is tied on the Shivling to control the temperature. Water keeps dripping from it drop by drop and the coolness remains.
This is also the reason
It is very hot in the months of Vaishakh and Jyeshtha. In such a situation, one of the reasons for tying Galantika on Shivling is that it keeps a constant stream of cool water on the Shivling and the temperature of Lord Shiva's body remains normal. Galantika can be made of clay or any other metal. It is especially taken care of that the water in Galantika never runs out.
A knot tied on Shri Mahakaleshwar
Galantika has been tied in Shri Mahakaleshwar temple as well. Shri Mahakaleshwar ji will be anointed with Galantika during the entire month of Vaishakh and Jyeshtha. Galantika will be tied to Lord Shri Mahakaleshwar ji daily after Bhasma Aarti from 6 am to 5 pm i.e. till Sandhya Pujan during these two months.
For this, Galantika was installed with the help of 11 earthen pots or pitchers. The names of 11 rivers are inscribed on these earthen pots, which are as follows - Ganga, Sindhu, Saraswati, Yamuna, Godavari, Narmada, Kaveri, Sharayu, Kshipra, Gandaki and Alaknanda.
