Taking shelter behind the grass, Vaidehi says,
remembering the Lord of Awadh, my dear friend
What is mythology
According to a legend, once everyone, including King Dasharatha, was having a meal in the royal palace of Ayodhya. Mother Sita had prepared kheer (rice pudding) with her own hands and was about to serve it to everyone, when suddenly a strong gust of wind came. Everyone gathered to gather their plates. Sita noticed that a straw had fallen into King Dasharatha's kheer (rice pudding). She couldn't remove the straw in front of everyone.
King Dasharatha witnessed the miracle
Then Mother Sita stared intently at the straw, not blinking until it burned to a tiny speck of ash. Sita then looked around and realized no one had noticed her, but King Dasharatha was also watching the scene. King Dasharatha then summoned Sita to his room and told her that he had witnessed the miracle she had performed during dinner.
The king took this promise
King Dasharatha told Sita that she was the embodiment of the Mother of the Universe. He also extracted a promise from her that she would never look at her enemy with the same eyes she was looking at a straw. Because of this promise to King Dasharatha, Sita never looked at Ravana with that gaze, otherwise, her mere glance could have reduced him to ashes. Sita would pick up a straw to remind herself of her promise to King Dasharatha.
