News Topical, Digital Desk : Due to increasing security concerns after the Pahalgam terror attack, the Home Ministry has ordered mock drills in many states of the country. This mock drill will be conducted on Wednesday, May 7. The government said that mock drills will be conducted simultaneously in 244 districts of the country. These include Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep Union Territory. 

Mock drill will be conducted in these districts of the three states

The government said that mock drills will be conducted in Bengaluru Urban, Malleshwara, Raichur districts of Karnataka on Wednesday. Apart from this, mock drills will be conducted in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram districts of Kerala on Wednesday. This also includes the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. Here, a mock drill is to be conducted in the capital Kavaratti.

Preparations will be reviewed

The aim of conducting simultaneous mock drills across the country is to enhance emergency preparedness and public safety mechanisms. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan is scheduled to review the preparations with chief secretaries and civil defence heads from across the country in a video conference on Tuesday.

The siren will sound

According to the official information issued by the Directorate General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards, the mock drill will include activation of air raid warning sirens, cleaning and repair of bunkers and trenches and training civilians on protective measures during hostile attacks.

Shadow control room will be tested

Other key activities include implementing crash-blackout protocols, concealing critical installations, updating evacuation plans and testing communication lines with the Indian Air Force through hotlines and radio systems. Control rooms and shadow control rooms will also be tested for operational readiness.
