West Bengal: Medical student raped in Durgapur, undergoing treatment at hospital

News Topical, Digital Desk : A year ago, the rape and murder of a student at Kolkata's R.G. Kar Medical College Hospital caused uproar in the state. Now, a case of rape of a student studying to become a doctor in Durgapur has surfaced, raising questions about safety in the city.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at a private medical college hospital in Shobhapur. Her family members have also come to Durgapur and are questioning the college's security. The student is from Odisha.

The student had gone to eat secretly with her friend

The victim's father stated that his daughter is a second-year medical college student. Around 9 pm on Friday night, she had gone out for a quick bite to eat with a friend. Two or three young men stopped her on the way and forcibly grabbed her. They took her to a secluded area, where one of the men raped her. Following the incident, the student was hospitalized. The role of her friend is also under suspicion.

Police started investigation

Upon learning of the incident, the victim's parents arrived in Durgapur on Saturday morning. Police also arrived at the hospital, interviewed the victim, and recorded her statement. The student's parents filed a complaint. They also suspect their daughter's friend. Police have launched an investigation. It is not yet clear how many people were actually involved in the incident.

Demand to arrest the accused

Police are searching for the accused. Police officials have stated that they will share information as the investigation progresses. BJP Yuva Morcha leaders Parijat Ganguly and Santosh Mukherjee also arrived upon receiving information. Parijat has demanded the arrest of the accused.
