Uttarakhand News: The Uttarakhand High Court has taken a serious stand on the increasing traffic jam in Nainital and surrounding areas. Hearing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Ajay Rawat vs Union of India, a division bench of Chief Justice G Narendra and Justice Alok Mehra has directed the government to explore the possibilities of creating small parking lots in the city.
The court has also asked to convert Bhawali Sanatorium into a super specialty hospital and take necessary steps to make Kainchi Dham jam-free. During the hearing, the court expressed concern over the increasing crowd at Kainchi Dham and the number of devotees coming in private vehicles. The government informed that at present there is parking facility for only 50 vehicles, while a plan is being prepared to construct a bigger parking and helipad.
The next hearing will be held on April 23.
The division bench also agreed to the demand of senior advocate Devendra Patni to make Bhawali Sanatorium a super specialty hospital. The court directed to explore the possibilities of transfer of critical patients from Nainital and surrounding hilly areas to the super specialty hospital for treatment. CSC Chandrashekhar Singh Rawat said that five to six buildings of the sanatorium have been renovated. On this, the court said that if modern health services are provided here, the treatment of patients can be faster and it should be thought about making it a 1000-bed super specialty hospital.
On the issue related to taxi union, senior advocate Avtar Singh Rawat raised the problem of unemployment of local taxi drivers. On this, the court directed to consider allowing local citizens to drive taxis. In the hearing held after lunch, the court asked all the departments to explore the possibilities of building stilt parking in the city area. The court suggested that the parking problem of the city can be solved through seven feet high parking structures. The next hearing of the case will be on Wednesday, April 23.
