Varanasi: The water level of Ganga has been falling since midnight on Thursday. By 6 pm on Saturday, a decrease of 1.07 meters was recorded in the water level in 48 hours. Despite this, difficulties continue due to flood water spreading to the coastal areas.
There is a danger of crops getting destroyed due to the flood water of Ganga rising in the fields in Chiraigaon area. Dozens of families have taken shelter in relief camps as flood water has entered the houses of coastal localities in Chaukaghat and Purana Pul area of Sarnath.
Here all the ghats of Ganga have been submerged in flood water. Ganga Aarti is being performed on the roofs of the ghats, while cremation is being done on the roof of the ghat at Manikarnika and at the mouth of the street at Harishchandra Ghat.
The water level which was 69.34 meters at 6 pm on Thursday evening, came down to 69.30 meters at 8 am on Friday. It remained at 69.7 meters till 4 pm. The water level was recorded at 68.92 meters at 8 am on Saturday which fell to 68.27 meters by 6 pm.
The families affected by this have taken refuge in flood relief camps. Due to flood water in Ganga, Gomti and Nad rivers in Chaubeypur area, crops of millet, paddy, sugarcane, vegetables etc. sown on the river banks in villages like Dhaurahra, Hariharpur, Pipri, Barthara Khurd, Ajaw, Garthauli, Rajwadi, Gaura Uparwar etc. have been submerged.
