News Topical, Digital Desk : Union Public Service Commission i.e. UPSC has taken an important decision for the differently abled people. UPSC has announced that from now on, in all the examinations conducted by them, differently abled candidates will be allotted the examination centre of their choice. UPSC has taken this step with the aim of making the examination process convenient for differently abled candidates. According to UPSC, differently abled candidates have to face many difficulties in commuting and travelling from one city to another for the examination. Keeping this in mind, it was decided that every candidate in the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities category will get the same examination centre which he/she had selected at the time of application.
Decision taken after analysis of data
UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar stated that an analysis of exam center data from the past five years found that some exam centers, such as Delhi, Cuttack, Patna, and Lucknow, reach their capacity limits very quickly. This inconveniences candidates with Benchmark Disabilities, who often have to travel to exam centers that are difficult for them to access.
Disabled people will get their preferred exam centre
He said that with this new decision, every Persons with Benchmark Disabilities candidate will now be able to choose their preferred exam center. This will provide maximum convenience and comfort to those with disabilities during the UPSC exam.
This is how the centers will be divided between PwBD and non-PwBD
To implement the decision, UPSC has clarified that the existing capacity of each examination centre will initially be used for both Persons with Benchmark Disabilities and non-PwBD candidates. However, once an examination centre reaches its full capacity, it will no longer be available for non-PwBD candidates. However, PwBD candidates will still be able to choose that examination centre. UPSC will increase the capacity of that examination centre to ensure that any PwBD candidate gets the examination centre of their choice.
