Although many films were released in the year 1992, but filmmaker Rajiv Rai's Vishwaatma created a different storm. The star cast of the film was so strong that this film was already being considered a blockbuster. Stars like Sunny Deol, Naseeruddin Shah, Chunky Pandey, Sonam, Divya Bharti, Gulshan Grover, Raza Murad and Amrish Puri were seen in the film. Recently, the director of the film Rajiv Rai has said that,

"While the film was being shot in Kenya, two of the film's actors were arrested. However, this was unknown, and now, years later, they have revealed it. Speaking with The Friday Talkies, Rajiv Rai explained that Rajiv and the film's stars were shooting in Nairobi and Mombasa, Kenya, and the shooting wasn't easy. According to Rajiv, “We didn't have any specific reason to shoot abroad. We decided, based on the story, that the villain escapes, and Africa is a cheap country, so we decided to shoot there. I was in contact with some people there, so I worked with them and received their support.”

He further stated that two actors were arrested during the night of filming in Nairobi. However, Rajiv Rai did not reveal the names of the actors who were arrested.

“Shooting in Nairobi has its own rules and regulations. You can't just walk around Nairobi at night. You weren't allowed to carry dollars with you, not even a single penny. We were all in a foreign land, and the actors had only 10-15 dollars for shopping. According to the rules, if you were caught there, they could even shoot you. It's a country with really strict rules.”

Rajiv Rai told that two actors of the film Vishwaatma had gone out for a walk at night. When they were walking on the road, people saw them and then they were arrested. After this both the stars were put in jail. After being put in jail, this news reached Rajiv and then somehow with the help of local people both the actors were released from jail. Actually Rajiv and the producers of the film were acquainted with the local people there and due to this they got both the actors released from jail.

Vishwatma became a major blockbuster in 1992. Following the success of Tridev in 1989, Rajiv Rai brought Vishwatma to the screen, and the film was a major hit.
