In 1976, songs were being prepared for the film Doosra Aadmi, starring Rishi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, and Rakhee Gulzar. The film was directed by Ramesh Talwar and produced by Yash Chopra. Rajesh Roshan was assigned as the music director for Doosra Aadmi. The movie included a song to be sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. Its lyrics were: “ Chal Kahin Door Nikal...”

The song featured a flashback scene, requiring a male singer's voice. Rajesh Roshan and Kishore Da wanted Mohammed Rafi's voice. However, Yash Chopra felt that why bother Rafi with such a short stanza.
