News Topical, Digital Desk : Bangladesh is once again engulfed in violence. Last week, two student leaders were shot dead in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police have made a significant claim.

Dhaka police say two key accused in the murder of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi have fled to India via the Meghalaya border.

What did the Bangladesh official say?

Police said two people who helped the accused have been detained by Indian authorities. Addressing a press conference at the DMP Media Centre, Bangladesh Additional Commissioner SN Nazrul Islam said two youths involved in Hadi's murder, Faisal Karim Masood and Alamgir Sheikh, entered India through the Meghalaya border with the help of local accomplices, according to a report in Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star.

The Bangladeshi official stated that the accused had crossed the Haluaghat border into India. He said that the accused were received by a man at the border crossing. They then headed towards the city of Meghalaya with a taxi driver.

He claimed that the police had received an unofficial report stating that two individuals who were assisting the two suspects had been detained in India. However, no official statement has been issued by India regarding the matter.

Bangladesh is engulfed in the fire of violence

Earlier this month, in Mymensingh, about 100 km from Dhaka, Dipu Chandra Das, a 29-year-old garment factory worker, was beaten to death, tied to a tree, and set on fire by an Islamist mob. This was a brutal display of violence against minorities. At least 12 people have been arrested in connection with the December 18 lynching.
