News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump has taken a surprising decision. He has allowed 6 lakh Chinese students to study in American universities, while his government was already being strict on international students. But with this, voices of protest against Trump's decision have started rising within the country.
These protests are being carried out by his own supporters. Actually these supporters are supporters of Make America Great Again. They believe that Trump has betrayed them and has sidelined the policy of America First.
Trump softened towards China
Trump spoke of a very important relationship between Washington and Beijing, a sharp reversal from his previous policy of revoking visas for students associated with the Chinese Communist Party or sensitive research.
"We're going to let their students come. It's very important, 600,000 students. It's very important. But we're going to have a good relationship with China," Trump told reporters from the Oval Office.
However, he also warned Beijing that if the US does not get the supply of rare earth magnets, it will have to face a 200 percent tariff. But he assured that the trade tension between the two countries will not affect Chinese students and they will be able to study in America.
Massive anger of MAGA supporters
As soon as Trump's statement came out, his most staunch supporters got angry. These supporters have been associated with the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement. They called it a betrayal of the 'America First' policy. MAGA supporter Laura Loomer strongly criticized Trump's decision and called the Chinese students "CCP spies".
A reversal of Trump's 'America First' policy
This new announcement by Trump is completely against his visa policy of May, which talked about 'America First'.
At the time, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, "Under President Trump's leadership, the US Department of State and Department of Homeland Security will work together to strictly revoke visas for Chinese students, especially those affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party or studying in key fields. We will also tighten scrutiny of future visa applications from the People's Republic of China and Hong Kong."
