News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump wants to replace Cuba's communist government. To this end, Trump has made a major announcement. He has called for imposing tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba.

Donald Trump has directed the US administration to impose tariffs on goods from countries that sell oil to Cuba. Trump has also signed an executive order to identify which countries are selling oil to Cuba.

There will be tariffs on oil supplies to Cuba

"The Cuban government has taken extraordinary measures that harm and threaten the United States," Trump wrote in the order.

The order further stated, 'This Government of Cuba is complicit in and supports numerous hostile nations, transnational terrorist groups, and those who commit acts of violence against the United States.'

Pressure will increase on Mexico

Trump's order will also put new US pressure on Mexico, which has become Cuba's main foreign supplier of oil in recent years as shipments from Venezuela dwindled amid the South American country's economic crisis.

Earlier this month, documents showed Mexico also backed away from plans to send crude oil shipments to the Caribbean island, Bloomberg News reported.

This threat from the US is directed directly at Mexico, its largest oil supplier. There has been no response from the Mexican Foreign Ministry following Trump's order.
