News Topical, Digital Desk : Trump's stance on India (Donald Trump on Tariffs) has now begun to soften. He has hinted at reducing tariffs on India. Recently, when Trump was asked about the trade deal with India, he said he could reduce them.

Trump claimed that high tariffs were imposed on India because of its oil imports from Russia, but now that India has stopped buying oil from Russia, the US may consider lowering the tariffs.

What did Trump say on tariffs?

According to Trump, "Tariffs were imposed on India because it bought oil from Russia. But now they (India) have stopped buying oil from Russia. We are going to reduce the tariffs."

Trump claims that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured him of this. However, India has categorically denied all claims of a phone conversation with Trump. The Indian Foreign Ministry has clarified that no conversation took place between the two leaders.

Statement on trade deal

Talking about tariffs and trade deals, Trump said-

We're about to strike a deal with India. This deal will be very different from the past. The people of India don't like me right now, but they'll love me again in the future. We'll strike a fair deal. We're very close to it.

It's worth noting that Trump imposed a 50 percent tariff on India in August, citing its purchase of Russian oil. He claimed this move would help prevent a Russia-Ukraine war. However, Trump has now begun to take a softer stance toward India.
