News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump has once again lashed out at Canada. He has announced the suspension of all trade talks with Canada. Trump claims that an advertisement on a Canadian TV channel is protesting US tariffs.
On Thursday, US President Trump said in a social media post that he was ending all trade talks with Canada because a Canadian TV channel was criticizing US tariffs. Trump said the advertisements were attempting to influence US court decisions.
Trade tensions could escalate between Canada and the US
Notably, Trump's comments came after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was aiming to double his country's exports to countries outside the US due to the threat posed by Trump's tariffs. Trump's abrupt decision to halt talks could further escalate trade tensions that have been building for months between the two neighboring countries.
What did Trump say in his post?
US President Donald Trump said in his post that the Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used a FAKE ad in which Ronald Reagan is speaking negatively about tariffs.
In his post, he stated that the ad was worth $75,000. He did this solely to interfere with the decisions of the US Supreme Court and other courts. Tariffs are essential to the USA's national security and economy. Based on their poor behavior, all trade negotiations with Canada are terminated.
It's worth noting that after returning to power in the US, Trump had announced that he would make Canada the 51st state of the US. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was furious about this, and he benefited from it in the Canadian general elections.
