"China and the US thoroughly discussed ways to properly resolve issues of concern to both sides and reached preliminary consensus," said Li Chenggang, China's international trade negotiator and vice minister of commerce.
The two-day talks between the two countries took place in Malaysia.

Putin announces nuclear-capable cruise missile testing
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the successful test of a new nuclear-capable cruise missile. This announcement comes amid Russia's continued aggression in Ukraine and uncertainty surrounding a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
"The decisive tests are now complete," Putin said in a video released by the Kremlin during a meeting with military officials. He has ordered the creation of infrastructure for the weapon's use in the Russian military. Putin described the missile as a unique creation, unlike any other in the world, and added that it has an unlimited range.
Russian military chief Valery Gerasimov said that during the last test on October 21, the missile flew for about 15 hours and traveled 14,000 kilometers (8,700 miles). He also said that this was not the upper limit for the weapon.
Putin announced the creation of the missile in 2018.
In 2018, Putin announced the development of missiles for the Russian army, which he said could bypass all defense systems in the face of threats from the United States. Seven years later, the announcement of its final test comes at a time when Russian forces are slowly but steadily making inroads into Ukraine and breaching Kyiv's defenses.

Peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv have stalled despite mediation efforts by Trump, who promised a swift end to the war upon his return to the White House in January. Trump on Wednesday imposed sanctions on Russia's two largest oil companies and complained that his talks with Putin to end the Ukraine war were going nowhere.
