The song was not made for Don
It is said that when Don was released, it was initially considered a flop, but then there was such a craze about the film that long queues started forming outside the theatres for tickets. The reason for this was the song Khaike Paan Banaras Wala from the film. People were coming to the theatres just to listen to this song and then Don made the audience crazy and its dialogues also became popular. But you probably don't know that earlier this song was not going to be included in the film.
Actually, the song Khaike Paan Banaras Wala was first made for Dev Anand and Rakhee's film 'Banarasi Babu' (1973). Its lyrics were also written for the same film and the music was also ready but it is said that Dev Anand did not like this song. Then the makers also did not use this song. About 5 years later, it was included in Don on Manoj Kumar's request.
Don changed on the advice of this star
According to BBC, no distributor was ready to invest money in Don. At that time, the director took his film to Manoj Kumar, also known as Bharat Kumar, and showed him the film. There was so much violence in the film that Manoj advised him that it needed some entertainment. The director accepted this advice and came up with a song in the film that showed the fun and slightly different personality of Don's character. So, the song Khaike Paan Banaras was included in Don.
Amitabh's tongue was burnt
It is said that Kishore Kumar sang this song after eating paan, so that the song could have that Banarasi flavour and authenticity. Not only this, Amitabh Bachchan also ate paan a lot during the shooting of the song. The situation was such that his tongue got burnt due to eating too much paan.
