News Topical, Digital Desk : British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Wednesday (local time) warned that the ongoing conflict in Iran will have a profound impact on the UK's future and the country is prepared to face its economic consequences.
He said, " No matter how strong this storm is, we are fully prepared to face it. " The British Prime Minister also reiterated that this is not his war and the UK will not get involved in it as it is not in the interest of his nation.
Emphasis on opening the Strait of Hormuz
Addressing concerns about rising living costs, Starmer said: “The most effective way to address the cost of living in the UK is to focus on de-escalating tensions in the Middle East and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital energy route.”
"To this end, we are exploring every diplomatic avenue available to us," he said, stressing ongoing diplomatic efforts.
He added, "The Foreign Secretary and Chancellor have already met their counterparts in the G7. The Defence Secretary is engaging with our partners in the Middle East, and the UK has now brought together 35 countries to support our statement of intent to work together to promote maritime security in the Gulf region."
What did the Australian PM say?
Earlier, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in his address to the nation that the coming months may not be easy.
"The coming months will not be easy. I want to be clear on that. No government can promise to eliminate the pressures created by this war. I can promise that we will do everything possible to protect Australia from its worst effects," he said.
He further said, "These are uncertain times, but I am confident that we will overcome these global challenges by working together and taking care of each other as we always have."
