News Topical, Digital Desk : The Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh has once again come into the spotlight. The Neja Mela Committee has announced a fair, sparking intense activity. Following the violence in Sambhal on November 24, 2024, the administration prevented the Neja Mela from taking place last year, leading to discussions about filing a petition regarding the Neja Mela.
The Neja Fair Committee has announced that it will hold the Neja Fair again this year, after Holi. The committee has also announced the dates for the fair. There are also discussions about filing a petition in the Allahabad High Court regarding the fair's holding.
The committee announced the holding of Neja fair.
When speaking with a fair committee official about this matter, they stated that the fair committee had announced the fair's holding. They stated that the Neja Fair flag, or "Neja," would be hoisted on March 10th, and the fair would be held for the remaining three days. This announcement caused a stir within the administration, although the Sambhal District Magistrate has been informed of the entire matter.
It should be noted that every year in Sambhal, a fair is held in memory of Syed Salar Masood Ghazi, nephew and commander of Mahmud Ghaznavi. This fair lasts for three days after Holi. It also has historical connections. The committee claims that this fair has been held for a thousand years. However, after the Sambhal violence, it was banned by the administration.
The administration had imposed a ban in 2025
Last year, in 2025, the Sambhal administration took a strict stance on the Neja Fair. The administration also banned it for security reasons, citing the communal tensions that had arisen in Sambhal following the violence. The administration argued that a fair would not be allowed to be held in the name of any aggressor. Meanwhile, the fair committee argued that the ban on the fair had seriously threatened the livelihoods of local traders.
