While the rain has brought relief to the people suffering from heat, in many cities the rain has exposed the local municipal corporation and municipalities. In the same sequence, the first rain of monsoon in Prayagraj also exposed the truth of all the claims of the Municipal Corporation. While on one hand many claims were made by the Municipal Corporation to keep the city roads clean before the rain and to get rid of waterlogging, the reality was far from it. Most of the main roads were completely submerged.

Mayor Umesh Chandra Ganesh Kesarwani had claimed that this time the Municipal Corporation has made full preparations before the monsoon and the cleaning of drains has been completed, but the first rain brought out the reality of these claims. There was a serious situation of waterlogging in many parts of the city, due to which traffic was affected and people had to remain stuck in traffic jams for hours.

10 crores were spent for cleaning the drains

Mayor Umesh Chandra Ganesh Kesarwani told that a budget of Rs 10 crore was set by the Municipal Corporation for cleaning 145 big drains and 639 small drains. But after the rain, the water accumulated on the roads and the garbage filled everywhere made it clear that neither the cleaning was done on time nor any strong arrangement for drainage was made.

The condition of these areas is bad

Roads were flooded in areas like Kareli, Katra, Sulemsarai, Station Road Alappur, Jhunsi and Civil Lines. At some places, the water was so much that the roads started looking like ponds. Due to this, pedestrians as well as two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers had to face a lot of trouble.

Local people allege that only formalities were done before the monsoon and almost no work was done on the ground. Due to the negligence of the Municipal Corporation, the public is now facing problems every day during the rains.
