The Women's Welfare Department's 1098 Child Helpline service has strengthened the state's child protection infrastructure with a "zero tolerance" policy. According to official data, more than 2.31 lakh children have been rescued from exploitation, child labor, and abandoned situations and given a new life through this helpline .
'Golden Hour' rescue: Help within 60 minutes of a call
According to Dr. Vandana Verma, Director of Women Welfare Department, this system has been made so sensitive that within just 60 minutes of receiving the call, the rescue team reaches the spot and rescues the child safely.
Quick Help: Children in distress are provided immediate police protection, medical care and legal advice.
Rehabilitation: After rescue, children are given safe shelter through the Child Welfare Committee and the process of reuniting them with their families is completed.
'Tight security' at stations and bus stands
To curb human trafficking, the Yogi government has extended the scope of the helpline to transport centres.
Railway Units: Special child help desks have been set up at 28 major railway stations in the state .
Bus Stand Units: Units are active at 11 busy bus stands to identify and immediately rescue children who are runaway or trafficked.
Big success for the financial year 2025-26
The effectiveness of this service can be gauged from the fact that in the current fiscal year (2025-26) alone, more than 77,000 children have received timely assistance. A state-of-the-art state-level control room monitors units in all 75 districts in real time.
