News Topical, Digital Desk : Ahead of Durga Puja festival in Bangladesh, miscreants vandalised the Swarupdah Palpada Sri Sri Rakha Kali temple in Mirpur Upazila of Kushtia district. They broke the idols, damaged CCTV cameras and also stole memory cards.

Durga Puja is the biggest religious festival of the Hindu minority in Bangladesh. According to local media, the incident took place on Sunday night. According to temple committee chairman Amresh Ghosh, the miscreants broke the heads and hands of the idols of Kartik and Saraswati.

The temple remains under protection

"At the time of the incident, there was no electricity in the area and it was raining lightly. Taking advantage of this, the idols were damaged. Although the temporary tin-shed temple is guarded daily, the incident took place during the power outage," Bangladesh's leading daily daily The Business Standard quoted Ghosh as saying.

Badal Kumar Dey, former secretary of the temple committee, said, "We have been organizing Durga Puja here for the last three years. This incident before Durga Puja has terrified us." Mirpur police station in-charge officer Mominul Islam confirmed the incident and said, “We immediately reached the spot after receiving the news. A detailed report will be given after investigation.”

Awami League criticized Yunus government

Bangladesh's Awami League party on Monday once again accused the Muhammad Yunus-led government of creating an atmosphere of anarchy in the country. It said that even those who have taken an oath to protect the nation under the self-proclaimed slogan of "restoring democracy and stability" are not being spared.

The party alleged that police officers, who are responsible for protecting citizens and maintaining law and order, are now facing constant attacks, threats and murders.

Textile factory workers stage protest

Hundreds of workers in Bangladesh protested on Monday against the suspension of 57 employees at two garment factories in Gazipur district, according to local media. Workers of two garment factories of Mohammadia Group - MG Knit Flare Ltd and MG Fashion Sweater Ltd - protested in front of the main gate in Bhawanipur area and said they would not leave until their demands were met. Confirming the development, police inspector Abdul Latif said, "The matter will be resolved according to the law."
