News Topical, Digital Desk : Aerospace company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is likely to deliver two state-of-the-art indigenous Tejas Mark-1A fighter jets to the Army next month, Defence Secretary RK Singh said on Saturday.
The government approved the purchase of another consignment
The Indian Air Force had raised concerns over the delay in the delivery of Tejas Mark 1A jets under an earlier contract. Last week, the government approved an additional consignment of 97 Tejas fighter jets at a cost of around Rs 67,000 crore.
38 Tejas jets are already in service
During an event, the Defense Secretary said that 38 Tejas jets are already in service and about 80 more are being built. In February 2021, the Defense Ministry signed a deal worth Rs 48,000 crore with HAL for the purchase of 83 Tejas MK-1A jets for the Air Force.
The delay in the delivery of the jets is mainly due to the delay in supply of aero engines by US defence company GE Aerospace.
