
News Topical, Digital Desk : SpaceX successfully launched its Starship Flight 11 from the Starbase launch site in South Texas on October 13, 2025. This was the 12th flight in the company's test program and the last flight of the current V2 design.
The flight completed all the critical phases, such as rocket separation, engine restart, payload release and safe landing, without any major disruption.
What is the purpose of Flight-11?
According to SpaceX, Flight 11 aimed to replicate and improve upon the achievements of previous missions. The Super Heavy booster separated from the main rocket on schedule and achieved a partially successful landing in the Gulf of Mexico. The upper component, Starship 38, successfully reached orbit, where it launched its payload and subsequently landed in the Indian Ocean.
During this flight, SpaceX conducted a new experiment: a 13-engine descent profile, in which the final stage was controlled by just five engines. Furthermore, by removing some of the heat shield, engineers tested the limits of heat and directional control during re-entry.
What will the company work on now?
Flight 11 marks the end of the Starship V2 era. The company is now moving on to Version 3, which will be taller, more powerful, and feature 42 Raptor engines. SpaceX is also developing an improved launch mount, a new flame trench, and stronger catching arms for the new version.
The success of Flight 11 is considered a major preparation for the upcoming NASA Artemis III lunar mission and Mars cargo missions. This move marks another strong step towards SpaceX's fully reusable and interplanetary system.
