A software engineer in Bengaluru received a piece of tile in the package instead of an expensive smartphone worth ₹1.85 lakh. The victim has filed a complaint at the Kumaraswamy Layout police station regarding this "delivery scam."
Tile found instead of phone worth ₹1.85 lakh
In his complaint, Premanand, a senior techie, stated that he had ordered a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold mobile phone worth ₹185,000 from the e-commerce platform Amazon during the Diwali sale. He paid the full price via credit.
When the parcel was delivered to him on the scheduled date and he opened it, he was shocked to see that instead of the mobile phone, there was a piece of tile inside the box.
Recording of opening the box
Premanand stated in his complaint that he wasn't suspicious when he received the delivery, as the accused had placed a piece of tile, approximately the same weight as the phone, in the package. However, Premanand, being prudent, recorded the entire incident on video while opening the sealed box. This video recording and all the documents related to the purchase have now become strong evidence in his favor during the police investigation.
The company returned the money, and the police are investigating.
Premanand immediately tried to contact the delivery boy, but received no response. He immediately filed a complaint through the National Cyber Reporting Portal (NCRP) and also with Amazon Customer Care on October 19. The company, recognizing the seriousness of the matter, acted quickly and refunded Premanand's entire money.
