News Topical, Digital Desk : The Supreme Court has given strict instructions to the central and state governments on hate speech. The court has said that hate speeches should be taken seriously and immediate action should be taken to curb it. The court also said that without waiting for the complaint to be lodged, the police should take suo motu cognizance and register an FIR and take action against the culprits. The court said that hate speeches will not be tolerated and it is becoming a "big threat" which must be stopped from growing. The Supreme Court has taken a tough stand to curb hate speech.

Stop hate speech immediately

The Supreme Court has said that hate speeches spreading on social media are worrisome and there is an urgent need to curb them. These days, attempts are being made to justify everything in the name of 'freedom of expression', which is extremely dangerous. The court said that hate speeches pose a threat to the secular fabric of the country and should be stopped immediately. 

The court also reprimanded the media
The Supreme Court has directed all states and union territories to take suo motu action under sections 153A, 153B, 295A and 505 of the IPC even if no complaint is lodged. The court also said that any hesitation in taking action would be considered contempt of the Supreme Court. The court has also reprimanded the media, especially TV channels, and said that it is the responsibility of the anchors to stop hate speech. The court said that the government should not treat the issue of hate speech as trivial and should develop a mechanism to stop it.
