Lord Shiva, the liberator, is present in the form of Jyotirlinga in his city Kashi. All the gods including Shri Hari worship and praise Kailashpati Shiva daily. Those who are devotees of Lord Shiva and chant his names, become free from the karmas and attain the state of Kaivalya.
That is why fasting is done
The 12 Jyotirlingas of the omnipresent Lord Shiva have their own specialties, but during the great festival of Sawan, the soul gets liberated by seeing and touching any Shivling present in every particle, in every village and town in every nook and corner of the country, and by anointing it with the water of the Ganges with devotion.
After enjoying all the pleasures, one attains supreme knowledge and the supreme abode. Man gets Kaivalya Moksha. Many people observe fast in the month of Shravan for devotion, self-purification and peace of mind.
Glory of Shravan month
In Skanda Purana, Lord Shiva himself has said that 'My beloved Sati sacrificed her body in the yagya of Prajapati Daksha and attained me in the form of Parvati, daughter of Himalaya, in the month of Shravan.' Hence, the month of Shravan is very dear to Lord Shiva. This month is named Shravan because the full moon is in Shravan Nakshatra.
Therefore, in this month, just remembering Lord Shiva gives all the siddhis and fulfills all the wishes. To please Lord Shiva, chanting Om Namah Shivaya with the Aarti of Gangajal, Dhatura flower, incense, lamp, offering, camphor is the best.
