Sawan Monday fast rules

Resolution of the fast - Before starting the fast, take a resolution of the fast in front of Lord Shiva after taking a bath in the morning. Think in your mind that you are observing this fast with a true heart and will follow all the rules.
Cleanliness - Maintain physical and mental purity on the day of the fast. Also wear clean clothes and keep the place of worship clean.
Fasting food - Sawan Monday fast is usually observed without water or without fruits, but if you cannot observe a waterless fast, you can eat fruits once. Use rock salt in this.
What to eat - During the fast, you can consume fruits, milk, curd, sago, buckwheat flour, water chestnut flour and products made from it, sweet potato etc.
What not to eat - During the Sawan Somvar Vrat, do not consume grains, pulses, common salt, onion, garlic, non-vegetarian food, alcohol, and any type of tamasic food. Keep in mind that do not use grains even to break the fast.

Method of worship

Get up early in the morning and take a bath.
Offer water, Belpatra, Dhatura, Bhaang, milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar, Ganga water and white flowers etc. on the Shivling.
Apply rice and sandalwood on Shivlinga.
Light a ghee lamp and incense in front of Lord Shiva.
Chant the mantra 'Om Namah Shivay'.
Recite or listen to Shiv Chalisa and Sawan Somvar Vrat Katha.
At the end of the puja, perform aarti of Lord Shiva .
Finally, ask forgiveness from Lord Shiva for all the mistakes made during the puja and fast.
