News Topical, Digital Desk : The 77th Republic Day parade became a historic moment for Indian cinema when filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in association with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, presented a special tableau under the theme 'Bharat Gatha'.

The association achieved a significant milestone with the presentation of "Darvadvaita Path" (The Path of Duty). With this, Bhansali made history, becoming the first Indian film director to represent Indian cinema at one of the most prestigious festivals.
This tableau placed cinema within India's larger storytelling tradition. Themed "Bharat Gatha," the tableau presented cinema not simply as an art form or entertainment medium, but as a powerful extension of India's centuries-old storytelling tradition, a tradition that stretches from folklore and epics to theatre, music, and ultimately, the universal language of cinema.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali felt proud
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, "I am deeply honored to represent Indian cinema and the creators' community at the Republic Day parade under the theme 'Bharat Gatha'. Collaborating with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to create this tableau was a tribute to India's timeless stories and the power of cinema to retell them."
He said, 'This reflects the vision of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji to take the art of Indian storytelling to the world and celebrate cinema as one of India's strongest cultural voices'.

Bhansali's presence was considered a fitting choice. He is a rare filmmaker of this era who carries forward the legacy of cinematic legends like Raj Kapoor, V. Shantaram, and Mehboob Khan. Through Bharat Gatha, the Republic Day parade reaffirmed cinema's place in India's civilizational storytelling tradition, as a modern medium that carries the soul of India's immortal stories to the world.
