News Topical, Digital Desk : Samay Raina: A petition filed by comedian Samay Raina, who came into controversy from India's Latent Show, regarding the comments made by him on persons with disabilities and people suffering from rare diseases was heard in the Supreme Court today.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court termed the comments made by Samay Raina and other comedians as disturbing. Along with this, the apex court said that it will closely examine the individual conduct.

 

Supreme Court sought response from comedian

In fact, during the hearing on Tuesday, a bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi directed the stand-up comedians to respond to the petition in which their insensitive jokes have been exposed. Along with this, the court ordered that Raina will have to be present in the court during the next hearing.

'Violation of the right to freedom of expression'

According to a report by NDTV, senior advocate Aparajita Singh, appearing for the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Foundation, argued that the offensive expressions used by Samay Raina and other comedians to mock people with disabilities amounted to hate speech. The expressions made by Samay Raina and others do not deserve any protection under the right to freedom of expression.

 

The court gave these important orders

The Supreme Court had strongly objected to these comments. The court had directed to prosecute the comedians for their indecent jokes. At the same time, after the personal appearance of the comedians in the court during today's hearing, the bench has asked them to file their reply within two days.
