The story of a girl and her parents from a small lane in Sachendi town has become a topic of discussion in the whole of Kanpur today. Raju Kushwaha of Sachendi town is famous as 'Raju DJ'. Going from village to village and playing sound systems on bicycles or pickups is his source of livelihood. Raju himself, an eighth pass, and his wife Manju Kushwaha are parents of four children. They have three daughters and a son. Despite financial constraints, they made their dream of making their children wear uniforms come true.
No compromise on children's education
Raju has been playing DJ for the past 14 years. He's been at weddings, fairs, and jagratas—wherever he's invited. His earnings barely cover the household expenses, and sometimes even his children's books and notebooks are hard to come by. But he never compromised on his children's education.
Two for the army and two for the police are being prepared.
The eldest daughter, Lakshmi, is preparing for the Delhi Police. Jyoti, the third daughter, also dreams of joining the Delhi Police. Deepak, the son, is also preparing for the army. But the second daughter, Vandana Kushwaha, has emerged as the leader.
Vandana became the first female soldier from Sachendi village.
After completing her intermediate, Vandana began preparing for police recruitment in Sachendi. Later, she went to Barra and took coaching. The path wasn't easy. In 2023, she passed the written exams for Delhi Police, UP Police, and UP Police Computer Operator. She failed the Delhi Police physical exam. She also took the UP Police constable exam, prepared for the physical exam with coach Shivam Kushwaha, passed it, but her name didn't appear in the final merit list. Despite failing several times, Vandana didn't give up. She then took the SSC GD exam, and this time, luck favored her. She was finally selected for the BSF. On March 8, she left for Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, for training. With this, Vandana became the first female soldier from Sachendi village.
The popular video that made everyone cry
While busy picking up and storing DJs, Raju never paid attention to his clothes. On the morning of March 8th, when Raju went to drop his daughter Vandana at the station, his clothes were torn. Someone filmed the moment. When the video surfaced on the internet, millions of eyes became moist. A father, himself in tattered clothes, fulfilled his dream of dressing his daughter in a uniform.
The father, sitting on the ground in front of his daughter, was living his dreams.
Someone captured this scene on video, with the daughter sitting on a stone platform with a garland around her neck, and the father sitting on the ground. The video shows the father with tears in his eyes and not looking at his daughter. Meanwhile, the daughter has tears in her eyes and is constantly looking at her father's face. These moments were truly tear-inducing. Meanwhile, the mother, sitting next to her daughter, is seen crying continuously and wiping tears from her eyes.
'The real hero-father'
People are writing, "They are the real heroes." Hundreds of people are also saluting the father's hard work and the daughter's dedication. Not only on the internet, but also at their homes, people are offering their congratulations. People are saluting the couple's courage.
Pride of the village, example of the country
Today, Vandana's name is on everyone's lips in Sachendi. Those who once used to say, "She's a girl, what can she do?" are now citing her as an example. Raju says, "I earn my living by playing DJ, but now my daughter will protect the country. What greater income can there be than this?" Vandana's story shows that dreams require courage, not resources. A father with tattered clothes and an eighth-pass mother—when they decide, their daughter dons the army uniform. Today, Raju's DJ shop is crowded. People come to congratulate him. The DJ's bass has now been mingled with an echo of pride.
