News Topical, Digital Desk : Indian Railways has taken a big decision to install CCTV cameras in trains to further strengthen the safety of passengers. Under this scheme, CCTV cameras will be installed in about 74,000 passenger coaches and 15,000 locomotive engines across the country. Four cameras will be installed in each coach, while there is a plan to install six cameras in each locomotive. Two cameras in the coaches will be installed at entry points and common areas.
The special thing about these high-tech cameras is that they can record high quality even in low light and provide clear footage even during high speed. This is expected to greatly improve surveillance and security.

Cameras will be installed in every station by October 2026
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said in early April this year that CCTV cameras would be installed at every railway station in the country within 1.5 years. Responding to a question in Parliament, he said that Indian Railways is taking several steps for the safety of women. Work is underway to install cameras at railway stations in different parts of the country. War rooms have been set up in every division, zone and Railway Board, which regularly monitor railway stations.
