News Topical, Digital Desk : Seven people were killed when a small private jet attempted an emergency landing in San Mateo Atenco, Mexico, crashing into the roof of a business building, causing a massive fire and evacuations.

The plane had departed from Acapulco and was headed to Toluca Airport, about 31 miles west of Mexico City. The crash site was in an industrial area about three miles from the airport.

Seven bodies were recovered after the crash

Mexico State Civil Protection coordinator Adrian Hernandez said there were eight passengers and two crew members on board, although only seven bodies had been recovered several hours after the crash.

How did the plane crash?

The plane tried to land on a football field but instead hit the metal roof of a nearby business, causing a large fire. "Around 130 people in the area had to be evacuated because of the fire," San Mateo Atenco Mayor Ana Muniz told Milenio television.
