News Topical, Digital Desk : Ibrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee, has described the ongoing diplomatic talks with the US as "an extension of the war", saying that Tehran will only hold talks keeping in mind its national interest and security.
" Iran acts based on its national interests and will do whatever is necessary to ensure the country's security, " Azizi said in an interview with Al Jazeera.
How does Iran view the current talks?
He also clarified that participation in the proposed talks in Islamabad is only possible if there are positive signals from the US. Azizi, a former IRGC commander, said Iran views the ongoing talks as a continuation of the battlefield.
He said, "We consider these talks an opportunity only if they build on the gains made in the war." He also warned that if the US resorts to pressure and arbitrary demands, the talks will be meaningless.
Iran has set some red lines
He clarified that Tehran will not negotiate at any cost and has set certain "red lines" that must be followed. Meanwhile, Azizi reiterated his tough stance on Iran's control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
He said that this waterway is an integral part of the country's sovereignty and will never be abandoned. A new bill will be introduced in Parliament to retain the power to grant permission for ships to pass through this waterway.
