Sources said that Prime Ministers belonging to the Congress party, Manmohan Singh addressed the Parliament of another country seven times, Indira Gandhi four times, Jawaharlal Nehru three times, Rajiv Gandhi twice and PV Narasimha Rao once. Thus, five Prime Ministers belonging to the Congress party addressed foreign parliaments a total of 17 times in nearly seven decades. Officials said that PM Modi has equaled this figure.
Addressed the parliament of developed and developing countries
Sources said Modi has addressed parliaments of developed and developing countries, reflecting India's wide global respect and relevance today. "India has stood with many countries of the 'Global South' during their freedom struggle. They listened to us then and they want to listen to us even today, especially on our democratic and development journey," an official said. The countries whose parliamentarians have been addressed by Prime Minister Modi include the US, Australia, the UK, Nepal, Mongolia, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Maldives, Guyana, Fiji and Uganda.
The future must be shaped through dialogue and partnership: Modi
Addressing a joint session of the Namibian Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the two sides must work together to build a future that is not defined by power and domination, but through partnership and dialogue. The Prime Minister said Africa should not be just a source of raw materials but should be a leader in value addition and sustainable development. "We have to work together. The Prime Minister said that India is looking forward to expanding its cooperation with Africa in the field of defence and security. " In his address, Modi highlighted the strong historical and cultural ties between India and Namibia.
