News Topical, Digital Desk : The political atmosphere in Bengal is heated over the Election Commission's decision to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee, along with her party general secretary nephew Abhishek Banerjee, and party leaders and ministers are openly opposing the SIR.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also announced that she will lead a massive protest march in Kolkata on Tuesday to register her objection.
SIR in 12 states and union territories including Bengal
The Election Commission recently announced that the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) will be conducted in 12 states and union territories, including West Bengal, in view of next year's elections. The first phase of this SIR will run from November 4th to December 4th. The draft voter list will be published on December 9th, and the final list will be released on February 7th.
BJP accuses Mamata of threatening BLO
Meanwhile, Bengal's Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, will lead a march in North 24 Parganas district demanding the expulsion of infiltrators through SIR. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Agnimitra Pal accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of threatening BLOs to sabotage the SIR process.
He said that all BLOs in all districts are undergoing training. We hope they will work without fear. If Mamata Banerjee thinks she can stop the SIR process by intimidating them, she is wrong.
Teachers are being used as BLOs – Kunal Ghosh
Meanwhile, Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh said the state government was not aware that teachers were being used as BLOs.
He said the SIR process forces teachers to work beyond their regular hours and has created problems for them. He further stated that the Education Department had no prior knowledge of the deployment of this BLO.
