Balendra Shah defeated KP Oli
Nepal's political landscape witnessed a major shift when newly elected young leader Balendra "Balen" Shah ousted veteran leader and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli from his parliamentary stronghold. Shah, a structural engineer by profession who first rose to prominence as mayor of Kathmandu, now made history four years later by becoming the youngest person to become Nepal's prime minister.
Contesting from Jhapa-5, Shah defeated Oli by a landslide. The senior Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader secured 68,348 votes, nearly four times the 18,734 received by the 74-year-old Marxist leader.
