Launching of Samudra Pratap will boost self-reliance: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the launch of the indigenously built pollution control ship Samudra Pratap has strengthened the vision of self-reliance. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday launched the Indian Coast Guard Ship Samudra Pratap, India's first indigenously built pollution control ship and the largest ship in the Coast Guard fleet so far.

"The launch of Samudra Pratap is significant for many reasons, including the fact that it strengthens our vision of self-reliance, boosts security mechanisms and demonstrates commitment to sustainability," the Prime Minister said ex-post.

The vessel will serve as a key platform for enforcement of marine pollution control regulations, maritime law enforcement, search and rescue operations and protection of India's Exclusive Economic Zone.

The ship's primary role is pollution response at sea, supported by state-of-the-art systems including side-sweeping arms, floating booms, high-capacity skimmers, portable barges, and a pollution control laboratory. The ship is also equipped with an external firefighting system and integrates several advanced systems to enhance mission efficiency.
