News Topical, Digital Desk : The Kolkata High Court has issued a ruling in a case involving a workplace dispute between a husband and wife. The High Court stated that a husband's insulting his wife at the workplace constitutes mental cruelty.
The Kolkata High Court also stated that a wife can seek divorce from her husband on this basis. A husband's use of derogatory language at the workplace is an attack on the wife's mental peace.
Humiliation at the workplace and mental cruelty
A bench of Justices Sabyasachi Bhattacharya and Supratim Bhattacharya delivered the verdict in a case. The High Court's decision was made on an appeal by a female doctor. The case had previously reached the Family Court, but the court dismissed it.
The woman challenged the family court's decision in the Kolkata High Court, alleging that her husband had been abusing her at the workplace and spreading rumors about her character.
High Court orders divorce
The High Court observed that the woman was not allowed to interrogate the people working with her through video conferencing, due to which she could not prove the allegations.
The High Court, in its verdict, granted divorce. The court granted the woman's husband the right to visit their minor son and also provided a complete schedule for the child's care.
