
News Topical, Digital Desk : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kolkata on Sunday evening to inaugurate the Joint Commanders Conference of the Armed Forces. The PM arrived at Kolkata Airport at around 6.50 pm by a special plane from Jorhat in Assam.
A large number of people had gathered outside the airport to welcome the PM, whom Modi greeted by waving his hand. Amid tight security, the PM reached the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata by road from the airport, where he stayed overnight.
PM Modi, who is on his second visit to Kolkata in less than a month, will inaugurate the three-day Combined Commanders' Conference (CCC) of the armed forces at the Army's Eastern Command Headquarters Vijay Durg here on Monday morning. The PM will stay at the Eastern Command Headquarters for about three and a half hours during the inaugural session. After this, the Prime Minister will leave Kolkata for Purnia in Bihar on Monday afternoon, where he has a public meeting.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan and other senior officers also reached Kolkata shortly before the PM for this Commanders' Conference. In this conference to be held from 15 to 17 September, top commanders of the three armies from across the country will gather on one platform and will deliberate on security related issues and future strategy.
Tight security arrangements made in view of Commanders' Conference
In view of the joint commander conference and PM Modi's visit, tight security arrangements have been made in Kolkata. Kolkata Police is on full alert. The army is also fully alert. Security has been tightened around the Eastern Command Headquarters.
This is PM's fourth visit to Bengal this year
It is known that this is PM Modi's fourth visit to Kolkata this year. During his last Kolkata visit on August 22, Modi had inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several development projects worth more than Rs 5,200 crore in Dum Dum, Kolkata. During his last visit, the Prime Minister had also inaugurated metro services on three new routes in Kolkata.
