This visit is being undertaken with the aim of giving new direction to the strategic partnership between India and Brazil, which includes many important areas like trade, defense, energy, technology and health.
New direction to strategic partnership
Prime Minister Modi was given a warm welcome on his arrival in Brasilia. His visit is expected to deepen multilateral cooperation between India and Brazil. The strategic partnership between the two countries has been going on since 2006, which is now being expanded.
In this meeting, new agreements can be made in areas like energy, space, agriculture, health and technology. There will also be talk of improving people-to-people contact between the two countries.

Trade and defence may be the most important issues in the talks between PM Modi and President Lula. Both India and Brazil are emerging economies, and an agreement may be reached on promoting mutual trade.
