News Topical, Digital Desk : The Patna Metro was scheduled to be inaugurated on August 15th of this year (2025), but for one reason or another, it has been delayed. Work is underway to ensure an early inauguration. Meanwhile, on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), Bihar Government's Urban Development and Housing Minister Jiwesh Kumar announced that the Patna Metro will be operational by the end of this month (September).

Jivesh Kumar said that in the first phase of the Patna Metro Rail Project, operations are being started between five stations in the primary corridor: ISBT, Zero Mile, Bhootnath, Khemnichak, and Malahi Pakadi, with a total length of 6.20 kilometers. Urban Development and Housing Minister Jivesh Kumar was addressing reporters on Wednesday during the Swachhata Hi Seva-2025 program.

Presenting details of the achievements of the Urban Development and Housing Department, he said that various cities of Bihar, once in the news for their stinking filth and heaps of garbage, are now flying the flag of cleanliness across the country. Jivesh Kumar said that Swachhata Pakhwada is being celebrated nationwide from September 17th to October 2nd, but in Bihar, during this festive season, it is being celebrated for about a month and a half as Swachhotsav, from September 17th to October 29th.

'Bihar will be a garbage-free state in a year'

Discussing the Patna Metro Rail, he said that Phase 2 will connect Bihta, AIIMS, and several other important locations in Patna. Meanwhile, Jivesh Kumar claimed that within the next year, Bihar will be completely garbage-free, with no garbage heaps visible anywhere in the state.

Minister Jivesh Kumar said that due to the expanding urbanization and growing population in the state, there was a shortage of clean drinking water for urban residents in the past. According to a 2011 survey, only 3.26 lakh households in the state's urban areas had water supply. However, today, several schemes are being implemented under the Pure Tap Water Scheme, Chief Minister's Urban Drinking Water Nishchay Scheme, and Amrit Scheme. As a result, a total of 29.68 lakh households are now supplied with clean drinking water.
