Shahid and Tripti are being considered for "O Romeo," but you may not know that they weren't the original cast for the film. Vishal Bhardwaj has been working on "O Romeo" for the past nine years. When he announced the film, both its focus and cast were different.
Irrfan Khan-Deepika Padukone were the original cast
According to a report by OTT Play, Vishal Bhardwaj had been working on "O Romeo" since 2017. Initially, it was a biopic of underworld queen Sapna Didi, simply titled Sapna Didi. Later, the film was titled "Femme Fatale," which means "woman getting hurt" in Hindi.
Why couldn't Irrfan and Deepika do O Romeo?
Deepika Padukone was set to play the lead role in Sapna Didi's biopic. The film also featured the character of Hussain Ustara, which Irrfan Khan was set to portray. Their pairing was well-received in Piku, which is why people were eager to see them in this biopic as well.
But in 2018, the film was shelved before shooting could begin. Irrfan Khan was battling cancer. He passed away in 2020, and Vishal Bhardwaj's film was shelved. However, the director has now returned with a new film, but this time the focus has shifted to Hitman Ustra.
When is O' Romeo movie releasing?
Inspired by Shakespeare's poem "O Romeo, Romeo," Vishal Bhardwaj's film depicts the story of deceit, love, and revenge. Shahid Kapoor plays gangster Hussain Ustra, while Tripti Dimri plays Afsa (Sapna Didi). The film is scheduled to release in theaters on February 13, 2026.
