But, 'Vikata Sankashti Chaturthi' (Vikata Sankashti Chaturthi 2026) which falls in the Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month has its own spiritual significance.

Significance of Vikat Sankashti Chaturthi

According to the scriptures, Sankashti means "remover of troubles." It is believed that those who observe a fast with devotion on this day, are relieved of mental and physical suffering. The Ganesh Purana states that fasting on this day bestows wisdom and prosperity. This fast is considered especially effective for completing pending tasks.

According to the Panchang, the Chaturthi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Vaishakh month will begin on 05 April 2026 at 11:59 am .

This date will end on the next day i.e. 06 April 2026 at 2:10 pm .

Based on the calculations of scriptures and Udaya Tithi, this year Vikat Sankashti Chaturthi fast will be observed on 05 April 2026.

The fast of Sankashti Chaturthi is completed only after offering Arghya to the Moon at night, hence the night of 5th April is the best time for worship.

Since a major part of Chaturthi Tithi and night time is falling on 5th April, hence fasting on this day is considered fruitful.

Simple method of worship

  • Worship of Lord Ganesha is very simple, he is hungry only for devotion.
  • Wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and wear clean red or yellow clothes. Fold your hands in front of a temple and take a vow to fast.
  • Remain sattvic on this day. If you cannot fast completely, you can eat fruits.
  • In the evening, bathe the idol of Lord Ganesha with Ganga water. Apply a vermilion tilak to the idol (Bappa is very fond of vermilion).
  • Offer him 21 bundles of Durva (grass) and offer Modak or Laddoo.
  • When the moon rises at night, pour milk, rice, and flowers into a pot and offer it to the moon. Only then break your fast.
