He was admitted to a hospital in Dwarka, where he was pronounced dead. Tamang auditioned for Indian Idol 3 in 2007, while serving as a constable with the Kolkata Police, and during that time he gained national fame.

Actor Anup Bikram Shahi, who worked with Prashant in Battle of Galwan, remembered him, telling Kathmandu Post, "I met him for about four-five days on the sets of Battle of Galwan. He was friendly and had a great personality. I met him just four-five months ago; I still can't believe this news."

Mamata Banerjee expressed grief

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences in a post, writing, “I am saddened by the sudden and untimely demise of Prashant Tamang, a popular Indian Idol singer and a nationally renowned artist. His connection with the Darjeeling hills and his former association with the Kolkata Police made him especially dear in Bengal. I express my condolences to his family, friends and countless fans.”

Who is in the family?

Prashant Tamang's family includes his wife, Geeta Thapa, whom he married in Nagaland in 2011. He also has a daughter, Arya. He reportedly also has a grandmother and a sister. Prashant frequently shared photos and videos of his daughter and wife on Instagram.
