News Topical, Digital Desk : The Karachi that Pakistan never tires of talking about is not worth living in. The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a sister organization of The Economist magazine, released the list of this year's most and least liveable cities on Tuesday.
World's least liveable cities revealed
The agency revealed the world's least liveable cities in 2025, which included Pakistan's financial capital Karachi. The think tank ranked 173 cities across the world for 2025, evaluating them on healthcare, education, sustainability, infrastructure and environment.
There has been no change in the list in the last one year
The rankings at the bottom of the list haven't changed much in the past year, with Syria's Damascus remaining the least liveable city in the world six months after the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad. Libya's Tripoli is just above it.
Bangladesh's capital Dhaka was ranked third from the bottom, while Pakistan's financial capital Karachi and Algeria's Algiers were ranked as the fourth and fifth least liveable cities.
Most liveable cities in 2025
Denmark's capital Copenhagen topped the list of most liveable cities in 2025. Copenhagen won after receiving perfect scores for stability, education and infrastructure, while Vienna tied for second place with the Swiss city of Zurich.
Auckland of New Zealand is at seventh place
Melbourne in Australia retained its fourth spot, while Geneva in Switzerland remained fifth on the list. Just outside the top five, Sydney in Australia moved up from joint seventh to sixth, while the Japanese city of Osaka and Auckland in New Zealand tied for seventh.
In ninth place, Adelaide was the third Australian city to make the top 10, while Canada's Vancouver came in 10th.
Calgary, which ranked fifth in 2024, dropped out of the top 10 this year, coming in at 18th after receiving low healthcare scores along with three other Canadian cities due to the strain on the country's healthcare system. Honolulu, Hawaii was the top US city on the list, coming in at 23rd.
