News Topical, Digital Desk : Pakistan, which suffered a defeat at the hands of India in Operation Sindoor last May, is boasting about its various weapons, including the JF-17 fighter jet. It claims that several countries are showing interest in them and that negotiations for a sale are in the final stages. But the reality is that it has not yet received any orders, and despite all the claims, there is no demand for the JF-17 fighter jets jointly developed by China and Pakistan.
Islamabad held talks with 13 countries
Three sources familiar with the defence sales said Islamabad has held talks with 13 countries, with six to eight of them in advanced stages for deals involving JF-17s, surveillance drones and weapon systems.
Although the Pakistani military and the Ministry of Defense have not provided any details, the Minister of Defense Production has claimed that several countries have expressed interest in fighter jets and other military equipment. Some analysts believe that the disruption of arms supplies due to the Ukraine war and conflicts in West Asia is prompting countries to seek new options.
In such a situation, Pakistan is exaggerating its weapons. While some argue that the talks are unlikely to lead to an agreement. Pakistan's Defense Production Minister, Raza Hayat Harraj, has expressed similar concerns. He said, "Negotiations are ongoing, but they could fail due to international pressure."
While it's unclear how many of the JF-17 negotiations could lead to a deal, Beijing may object to some, according to Simon Wezeman, a senior researcher at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.
Claims regarding these countries
Sources claim that countries like Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Morocco, Ethiopia, Libya, and Nigeria are involved in the talks. Bangladesh and Iraq have also discussed the JF-17 fighter jets. However, further details have not been released. All of the countries being claimed are Muslim-majority.
