News Topical, Digital Desk : Pakistan's internal security situation is facing a serious crisis under the leadership of Army Chief General Asim Munir. According to a report, operational and tactical shortcomings of the security forces led by Munir have led to a rise in militant attacks and deaths.
He has failed to protect civilians from militancy and violence amid a rapidly deteriorating internal situation. The situation has become particularly alarming in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.
Security in Pakistan is in shambles
According to a report published in a reputed English daily, over 5,300 militant attacks were recorded in Pakistan in the year 2025. Last year saw a massive 74 percent increase in deaths related to various conflicts due to operational lapses of the security forces.
Surprisingly, only last year Asim Munir was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal for 'exemplary leadership', while the security system on the ground has completely collapsed.
Warning given to Pakistan
Experts' warnings and criticism Tamim Asi, a former Afghan deputy defense minister, called Munir's strategy a "major strategic mistake." He warned that Munir was risking the lives of his soldiers and that Pakistan was slowly moving toward a disastrous situation similar to that of 1971 (the creation of Bangladesh). He advised Munir to pursue a path of dialogue.
Meanwhile, senior defense analyst Pearl Pandya says the military-centric response has alienated the local population (particularly Baloch and Pashtuns). He warns that Munir's plans to mine copper in Balochistan could further fuel militancy.
The way forward and challenges According to the report, three factors are essential to curb the insurgency – sustained military pressure on militants; political engagement with Baloch and Pashtun groups; and cooperation from Afghanistan.
At present, the Pakistani military is focusing only on military pressure, while the lack of political dialogue and poor relations with Afghanistan are expected to lead to continued violence and instability even in 2026.
