26 people were killed and 13 injured in a terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to Delhi on Wednesday morning, leaving his Saudi Arabia tour midway. He took a briefing on the attack from officials at the airport. He will chair a cabinet meeting on security matters. The country's Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Pahalgam today.

Home Minister Shah reached Srinagar a few hours after the attack

Let us tell you that Home Minister Amit Shah reached Srinagar a few hours after the attack on tourists. Jammu and Kashmir Police Director General Nalin Prabhat briefed the Home Minister in detail about the Pahalgam attack upon his arrival. After that, Shah chaired a high-level meeting of security officials including Army, CRPF and Police.

"Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar in the wake of the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam," a spokesperson said. Terrorists opened fire at a popular tourist destination in Pahalgam town of Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon, killing 26 people. Most of those killed in the terror attack were tourists. This attack is being described as the deadliest attack in the valley after the 2019 Pulwama attack.

Terrorists opened fire on tourists enjoying a picnic

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the terror attack as 'far bigger than any attack on civilians in recent years'. Baisaran, about six kilometres from Pahalgam town, is a vast grassland surrounded by dense pine forests and mountains and is a favourite spot for tourists and trekkers. Officials said armed terrorists entered the grassland, called 'Mini Switzerland', and opened fire on tourists who were loitering around restaurants, riding ponies, picnicking and enjoying the views. The Resistance Front (TRF), a front organisation of Pakistan-based banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the attack. Officials said it is possible that the terror group reached Baisaran from Kishtwar in Jammu via Kokernag in south Kashmir.
