
News Topical,Digital Desk : Chief of General Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Sunday met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at his residence. The meeting was called in response to the deadly attack on April 22 in which 26 people, mostly tourists including a Nepali national, were killed by terrorists.
Pahalgam is the deadliest terrorist attack after Pulwama
The incident took place at around 2 pm at Baisaran ground near Pahalgam, a popular tourist town in Jammu and Kashmir. It was one of the deadliest attacks in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack. Forty Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were martyred in Pulwama.
After the Pahalgam attack, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) teams have intensified their search for evidence since April 23. Teams led by an IG, DIG and SP of the anti-terror agency are questioning eyewitnesses who saw the April 22 attack.
Indian Army on high alert
Moreover, the Indian Army is on high alert and is carrying out multiple search operations to neutralise terrorists after the attack in Pahalgam. The incident has sparked outrage across the country and there are widespread protests across the country demanding strict action against Pakistan over the Pahalgam attack.
The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met on 23 April and was briefed in detail on the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The CCS strongly condemned the attack and expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished speedy recovery to the injured.
What happened in the CCS meeting
The briefing to the CCS highlighted the cross-border connections of the terror attack. It was noted that the attack came in the wake of successful conduct of elections in the Union Territory and its continued progress towards economic growth and development.
As a security measure, India has decided to withdraw its Defence, Naval and Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. These posts are considered null and void in the respective High Commissions. Five support staff of the Service Advisors will also be withdrawn from both the High Commissions.
